Scooter to be part of display

Written byNATALIE WAKEFIELD

A SCOOTER and Shrovetide enthusiast has combined his two passions.

Alan Brown, 44, from Snelston, has had his Vespa scooter given the Shrovetide treatment by having the panels of the bike emblazoned with photographs of the ancient game.

Mr Brown, who runs his own company Alan Brown Surfacing, is a member of Chaos scooter club and had his Vespa adorned by John Howson at Raptor Grafix.

Mr Brown said: “Everybody likes to come up with something different. I thought Shrovetide is unique to us so nobody is going to have that.”

The scooter has a Union Flag down the centre with black and white photographs on the panels.

The scooter will be on display at Ashbourne Town Hall from Saturday until Ash Wednesday as part of an exhibition of Shrovetide memorabilia and ephemera.

Other items on display have been lent by townsfolk as well as some of the items pictured which have been lent by the Shrovetide committee, some of which was rescued from the Green Man and has been looked after by Ken Renshaw of G K Engineering.
