SHROVETIDE mugs have gone on sale for the first time, in a bid to raise funds to support the game.
The mugs, which are officially sanctioned by the Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Committee, bear hand-painted pictures of a goal, a crown and are inscribed ‘Ye Olde Game’, and are on sale now in three different styles.
A ceramic mug, costs £6, while a bone china version is available for £8, and an insulated travel mug is also on offer for £10.
The mugs have been commissioned by Shrovetiders Stuart Lees and Bob Dyer and were hand-painted by Jane Etherington.
They will be sold on a stall at Late Night Shopping and can be purchased by calling Mr Dyer on 07989 540279 or Mr Lees on 07970 847758.
Examples of all the mugs, in ceramic, china or travel-mug styles, with both Down’ard and Up’ard goal pictures on, are on show in the News Telegraph’s office window.
Funds raised through the sale of the mugs will go straight to the game’s committee.
