A CAR carrying four people has careered down an embankment at the side of a notorious stretch of road near Ashbourne in a collision involving three cars.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said six people were treated by the crews following the collision in Ashbourne Road, Rocester, shortly after 9.35am on Sunday.
The collision saw one woman transported by air ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and four people taken to Burton’s Queen’s Hospital by land ambulance.
The ambulance service sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic area support officer, a community first responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire to the scene of the crash.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found three cars that had been in collision.
“One of the vehicles had left the carriageway and was found down an embankment.
“Four people from the car found down the embankment required treatment.
“The front seat passenger, a woman, was treated for back and chest injuries before being airlifted to University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
“The driver, a woman, was treated for face and chest injuries and two teenage passengers, both female, were treated for seat belt injuries before all three casualties were conveyed in one land ambulance to the same hospital.
“A rear seat passenger from a second vehicle, a 17-year-old woman, was treated for a neck injury before being conveyed to Queen’s Hospital, in Burton, by land ambulance for further assessment and treatment.
“An 11-year-old boy from the third car was assessed and treated by ambulance crews for a minor seat belt injury and was discharged at the scene.”
Staffordshire Police said they were required to close the road until 11am while the damaged vehicles were recovered.
The notorious road has been the site of many accidents over the years, most recently claiming the life of Stephen Hallam, of Mayfield.
The 23-year-old, who was an experienced driver, died after his car got stuck in flood water while driving home from Uttoxeter and he crashed into a nearby tree.
