PEOPLE living in and around Ashbourne are being asked to volunteer for the town and parish concil snow warden scheme.
Derbyshire County Council has been recruiting volunteers to help clear snow and ice from pavements during wintry weather since 2011 and the scheme has been in operation in Ashbourne and surrounding villages.
But bosses say more snow wardens are needed to help co-ordinate snow clearing activities and report back road conditions in their area to the county council.
The authority’s deputy cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport, Councillor Dean Collins said: “Snow wardens can play an important role by being our eyes and ears in their communities and alerting us to any problems on the roads as well as helping to clear snow from pavements.”
A list of town and parish councils taking part in the scheme is available on the county council’s website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/townandparish.
