Special Shrovetide ball for Mercians

THE Ashbourne Branch of the Royal British Legion has also announced that the regiment’s visit will be marked by the presentation of a special gift a oneoff Shrovetide ball.

Donated by the Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide committee, painted by Simon Hellaby and organised by the British Legion, the ball has been commissioned to be a keepsake that will remind soldiers of their visit to Ashbourne.

Decorated with the regiment badge, the British Legion’s badge, Ashbourne’s town crest and other significant symbols, the ball will be on display in the News Telegraph’s Market Place office window from tomorrow until the march.
