Stepping back to Victorian times

Written byNATALIE WAKEFIELD

SCHOOLCHILDREN have stepped bck in time as part of a history project.

Pupils at Mugginton Primary School learned about the life of schoolchildren in Victorian times by adopting period dress for the day.

The youngsters also got a real taste of Victorian life thanks to teachers also getting into their roles and imposing Victorian standards of behaviour for the day.

Vanessa Horobin is the bursar at Mugginton Primary.

She said: “The historical day came as quite a shock to the children when they lined up for their morning hand inspections and were expected to work in complete silence.

“At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed the eye-opening experience and left school feeling happy to return to the 21st century.”

The period was particularly apt, as the school building itself dates back to the reign of Queen Victoria, adding an extra historical dimension to the day.
