A STUDENT from Ashbourne has picked up a special award when he graduated from Shropshire’s Harper Adams University.
Alastair Bourne, from Norbury graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Engineering with Marketing and Management at a ceremony held at the university.
The 22-year-old was presented with the CLAAS (UK) Ltd Trophy which is awarded to the best Agricultural Engineering with Marketing and Management student.
His citation read: “Alastair was awarded a JCB scholarship in 2011, and following a highly successful industrial placement year with them undertook a project for JCB marketing.
“His degree success was despite needing to travel to the USA to collect data for his final year project.
“Alastair is a very professional and highly motivated individual who has represented the Harper Adams Engineering Department on numerous occasions, and has also been a very effective course representative.”
Mr Bourne was among the first students to have graduated since Harper Adams, which specialises in rural and land-based industries, gained its new university status in December.
A total of 527 awards were handed out during graduation including undergraduate, postgraduate and PhDs.
