AN ASHBOURNE supermarket has launched an initiative to help support elderly, homeless and vulnerable people in the community this Christmas.
Waitrose, which has a branch in the Shaw Croft Centre, will provide Christmas lunch events for groups in the area applying before Friday, November 15.
Store bosses will provide paid staff to volunteer at the lunches and money has been set aside to put on the events in the areas surrounding each store.
Waitrose community manager Tina Varns said: “Through our Community Matters initiative our shops have been able to support such incredible work going on in communities across the country over the last five years - and we’ve learned first-hand how vital this kind of support is at providing lifelines to vulnerable people.
