CHILDREN at a pre-school near Ashbourne have been embracing the non-football related annual tradition at this time of year by celebrating pancake day.
Ahead of Shrove Tuesday, pupils at Norbury and Roston Pre-School marked the beginning of Lent with pancake tasting and a Pancake Race.
Head of the pre-school, Jayne Hooley, said: “We have had great fun again today with our Pancake Tasting and Race.
“During the week, the children have been discussing and researching Lent and its meaning, and also our local tradition, namely Shrovetide Football.
“Understanding the world is an important part of our curriculum, this therefore gives us the ideal opportunity to discuss beliefs, traditions and people in our community. “The children arrived armed with their frying pans this morning in readiness to toss their pancakes – we have had an exciting morning”.
