ONE man and his dog have passed through the Ashbourne area on their way to completing a walk from Land’s End to John O’ Groats to raise funds for a hospice.
Andrew Yates and his three-year-old Basset Griffon Vendeen dog Frank (pictured left) are walking hundreds of miles from Britain’s southern-most point to its northern tip and stopped off in Thorpe as part of the Midlands leg.
Mr Yates, from Berkshire, is raising money for Dorothy House Hospice Care, which provides specialist nursing care at home for people with life-threatening illness in Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset.
Proceeds from the walk, which began on Monday, May 7 and is expected to finish in mid-July, will also be donated to Hope Rescue, which helps dogs in council pounds facing euthanasia.
