A FORMER Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School teacher has become a star on video sharing website Youtube after showing off his wood-working skills at the tender age of 94.
Harry Lawton, who taught woodwork at the school from the 1950s to the 1980s, was interviewed in the short film by Jeremy Broun at his home in Windmill Lane.
He starts by talking viewers through his affinity with wood, while skifully and effortlessly turning a table lamp from a piece of American Walnut on his lathe - despite admitting to being ‘past his best’.
During the film, which can be seen on the News Telegraph website, Mr Lawton shows viewers round his home and points out items of furniture that he has made, including a sideboard, drinks cabinet and double door.
In the film, he enthuses: “There’s always a pleasure in making something which you not only enjoy making yourself but that gives pleasure to somebody else.
So far nearly 500 people have watched the film.
