THE Duke of Devonshire has pledged his support for health care provided in and around Ashbourne by signing up as a member of Derbyshire Community Health Services’ newly emerging Foundation Trust.

The Duke, who owns the Chatsworth Estate, has also spoken publicly about his respect for the care that is received by patients as they are looked after by Derbyshire Community Health Services, including at Cavendish Hospital where he opened the new roof garden last year.

Trust chairman Andrew Fry said: “We were thrilled when the Duke agreed to become a member of our Trust.

“He has shown wonderful support for the care provided by our teams.

“We spent a long time talking to staff, patients and relatives during the official opening of the roof garden for dementia patients last summer.

“Since we started inviting people to become members of our Trust 18 months ago we have had a fantastic response from a wide cross-section of people living in Derbyshire and beyond.

“We are well on the way to reaching 12,000 members and counting.“
