A TEMPORARY one-way system is to be implemented on New Year’s Day at a village near Ashbourne.

The annual Mappleton Boat Race and Bridge Jump starts at 11am and police are warning motorists that a one-way route will be enforced for up to four hours during the event. All traffic should approach the village from Ashbourne town centre along Mappleton Lane.

Pc Ian Cooper said: "Traffic can continue through the village, and leave by Spend Lane (towards Sandybrook and Thorpe), or through Okeover (after the event). The one way system will be in place for three to four hours around the time of the event. There should be diversion signs in place to assist motorists.

"Visitors approaching from the North of Mappleton should continue and travel down the A515 into Ashbourne, and approach from the Town Centre.

"Visitors are advised to arrive early and park when they see an opportunity, as they will not be able to drive up and down looking for spaces."
