MOTORISTS caught out by an incorrect sign will get their parking tickets cancelled if they appeal,Derbyshire County Council confirmed this week.
A number of drivers parking in onstreet bays in Church Street were issued with tickets last week as parking enforcement officers were tasked with keeping the area clear ready for the start of planned pavement repairs.
However, the repair work , which had been scheduled for Monday, October 1, had been delayed.
But the traffic wardens were not informed of the change, which meant many people who parked for less than the half hour they were entitled to still got a ticket.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire County Council said: “Work to improve the pavement on Church Street was postponed until Monday, October 8 while our contractors completed other roadworks delayed by heavy rain last week.
“Unfortunately parking officers weren’t told about the change.
“We’re sorry for any confusion and inconvenience which may have been caused.
“Incorrectly issued tickets will be cancelled on appeal and anyone who feels they’ve been wrongly given a ticket should follow the instructions on the back of the ticket.”
