PARKSIDE Junior School emerged winners of a Kwik Cricket competition for year five and six pupils.

Twelve schools in the QEGS cluster fought it out at Clifton Cricket Club for a place in the next round of the tournament.

Parkside, Osmaston and Kniveton made it through to the final round, which was played on QEGS fields, and umpired by Charles Hart and Harry Zona.

Parkside's faultless fielding saw them beat both teams and secure their route through to the final.

They will now have to take on primary schools from the Anthony Gel, Highfields and Lady Manners cluster at Matlock Cricket Club for the overall prize.

Other schools taking part in the competition included Hulland Ward, who finished third in their group.

Headteacher Wendy Underwood said: "It's always a competition which we enjoy taking part in, although because we are a small school, we had pupils from Year 4 also competing."
