A PENSIONER had to be cut free from the disabled toilet in Shaw Croft Car Park after he was accidentally locked in by an attendant.
The man was stuck for more than an hour, from around 5pm on Saturday, while his wife and a police officer tried to call the toilet’s owners, Derbyshire Dales District Council.
Eventually Ashbourne fire and rescue was called in, shortly before 6pm, and officers used a DeWalt saw to cut the door open and free the gentleman, who was cold, but otherwise safe and well.
A spokesman for the district council said: “Clearly it wasn’t our intention for this to happen and we have apologised personally to the gentleman concerned and to his wife, who unfortunately had to raise the alarm.
“No response was heard when our attendant shouted out to say he was about to lock up, but all our attendants have now been reminded to doublecheck in these circumstances.”
