LETTERS have been sent out to homes and businesses in the town centre detailing how a £200,000 project to upgrade the town’s electricity network will affect them.

Western Power Distribution plans to start work on the town’s low voltage electricity network from Monday, February 18 and an underground cable will loop round the Market Place and Victoria Square.

It is thought the work will take up to six weeks to complete and should spell an end to repeated power failures that have hit homes and businesses nearby.

During the project, new cables will be laid in the footpath from Victoria Square, along St John Street, through the Market Place, back to Victoria Square.

A plan will be on show in the window of the News Telegraph office in Market Place following Shrovetide, which will detail the works to passers by.

Bosses have warned that some planned interruptions to power supply could be possible during the works, but residents will be notified in advance to arrange the best possible time.
