VOLUNTEERS at an Ashbourne charity shop are celebrating 25 years of town-centre trading.

Cancer Research, in Market Place, is inviting customers to join in their festivities with a slice of birthday cake on Friday, December 6.

Manager Penny Godwin said: “We want to say a big thank-you to everyone involved because in the 25 years we have been in Ashbourne we have raised more than two million pounds to fund vital research into the disease.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of people like Helen Watson and Bee Payne, who have been here since the day we opened.

“Milly Webster, Polly Thelluson and Margaret Briggs joined just three months later and have also been with us ever since.

“That’s a massive 125 years of volunteering.

“To help continue raising funds we are asking Ashbourne shoppers to donate 25p, £25, 25 unwanted items or even 25 bags.”
