A FLY-FISHING club near Ashbourne recently held its annual presentation evening.
The event, held at the Knockerdown Inn, saw several of the Carsington based club members presented with awards, and angler Andrew Wilton walked off with a bagful of trophies.
Spokesman for the club, James Sharpe said: “ We fish a series of seven competitions each season, each participant scores points for the weight of fish landed.
“Andrew not only led the league table at the end of the season to grab a trophy along with the title of Angler of the Year, but also won trophies for landing the heaviest fish of the season and having the highest overall bag.
“He takes after his father Alan, whose name appears on the trophy no less than six times during the previous 14 years.
“The runner –up trophy was presented to Stephen Coates and third place to Richard Grimes.
“Keeping it in the family, a special award was made to Seth Grimes who at 13 years is by far the youngest member.
“Seth failed to catch anything on his first outing but persevered and in September he found himself in top spot.”
