ASHBOURNE Aztecs Lions Under-14s’ first game for nine weeks saw them ease to victory against Roe Farm at the Polo Ground for their first home win of the season.
The Lions took control straightaway and within minutes were having shots saved from Toby Doran, Marcus Lumbard, Peter Linley and Dan Harrison.
Dom Simpson-Allsop worked hard on the left wing, supplying crosses but the forwards could not find the back of the net.
Roe Farm were dangerous on the counter-attack but Ben Bryan, Callum Hellaby, Ben Warner and Tom Dixon battled hard to break down every attack.
Alex Cranstone in goal had very little to do but when called on saved every shot Roe Farm had, while Archie Shaw cleared a ball off the line with a superb overhead kick.
The second half began with Dan Morton, Jake Massey and Brad Keeling entering the game and the latter shot just wide with his first touch of the ball.
Morton unfortunately had to be carried off injured but the Lions kept going and midway through the half Lumbard finally put them 1-0 up.
Simpson-Allsop on the left found Doran in the middle, his shot rebounded off the keeper and Lumbard pounced to put the ball in the back of the net.
The Lions did not sit back and it soon after, Massey put Doran through and his long-range shot went over the keeper’s head and into the net.
Dixon, Harrison and Bryan all had attempts on goal but could not convert.
