School athletes star at champs

QUEEN Elizabeth's Grammar School won all four championships at the first round of the English Schools' Athletics Association (Derbyshire) competition at Moorways.

They took the Inter Boys and Girls and Junior Boys and Girls titles. The points scored by the two boys teams took them through to the A Finals (North Midlands area), again held at Moorways.

The Junior Boys finished second, missing out on top spot by only four points. The Inter Boys were fourth.

The Girls' scores also took them through to the final, which was held in Wakefield. Both teams managed to win their groups.

The following students then went on to represent the Derbyshire Dales in the District Finals at Moorways and won their individual disciplines.

U17: Harry Goodier, 110m hurdles; Will Gardner, discus and Jo Gill, shot put.

U15: Jack Bowers, 80m hurdles; Dan Evans, 1500m; Sam LeGrice, javelin; Will Farr, triple jump

In the U17 age group, Tom Coakley was placed second in the discus with Ed Groves fourth in the javelin.

In the U15 age group, Cora Marks and Helena Shapton finished fourth in the discus and 800m respectively.
