STAFF and pupils at an Ashbourne school have bid a fond farewell to a governor who has been with them since 1997.
Frank Hawley was honoured at a special celebration assembly at Hilltop Infant and Nursery School to thank him for his long involvement and wave him off as he retires from his post.
Head teacher Hazel Jaques said: “Mr Hawley has been a school governor at Ashbourne Hilltop Infant and Nursery School since 1997 and has always been a good friend to our school.
“He has been involved in many aspects of school life; indeed he has appointed most of the current members of staff.”
Mr Hawley’s fiancée Flo was employed at the school as the school cook in the 1970s and 1980s, joining the school shortly after it first opened and later joined Mr Hawley on the board of governors.
