AN Ashbourne school recently held a reception in honour of a long-serving governor.

Staff and governors at Parkside Junior School wanted to recognise the support given by Ken Torr, who has served a 25 years as a governor of the school.

Current and former governors and school staff gave Ken an engraved mantle clock to mark this important milestone, and were joined by Jeanette Hamilton, head of governor support at Derbyshire County Council, who presented a certificate.

Tributes were paid to Ken’s local knowledge of the school and community, his skills as a governor and the voluntary service he has given in the role.

Chairman of governors, Phil Taylor said: "Over the 25 years Ken has outlasted 12 education secretaries of state and has contributed to the education of many hundreds of Ashbourne families and children.

"He will be continuing as a governor, hopefully, for many more years to come."
