THE organisers of Ashbourne’s first Shrovetide in Stilettos party said they were “amazed and thrilled” to raise more than £3150 on the night.
The ladies-only party was held in the town hall, with guests enjoying a fish and chip supper and live entertainment from Rob Falcon.
The money, which will be donated to the Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Players Committee, was raised through ticket sales, table sponsorship, and a big raffle draw with prizes donated by local businesses and individuals.
Nick Fearn, chairman of the committee said: “We are really proud of the girls’ hard work and efforts, and grateful for their support. The money will be put towards the ongoing costs of the game, and I know everyone on the committee would agree with me that Debbie and Rachel did a fantastic job.”
Debbie Ditchfield, who organised the event with her friend Rachel Salt, said: “It was a fantastic night and everyone who came along had fun. To raise this much money was beyond our wildest dreams though so we owe a huge thank you to everyone involved – especially Craig Brown and Jimmy Carter, both Shrovetide players, who agreed to be auctioned off on the night.”
There is a plan to repeat the event again next year and more details will be available nearer the date.
