CHILDREN in Ashbourne are being invited to take part in Shrovetide-themed activities this year, ahead of the two games.

Ashbourne HeritageSociety is running two events, which will be aimed at getting youngsters into the spirit of the Shrovetide tradition.

The events, which will run from 11am until 1pm, on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, will take place in Ashbourne Heritage Centre in Church Street.

Children will be able to take part in word searches, a ‘Hunt the Shrovetide Ball’ game and colouring of a Shrovetide design created by principal ball painter Tim Baker.

The event was run at half-term by volunteers Denyse Donnelly, Lucy and Margaret Taylor, Rutha Titterton and Sue Woore.

Organisers hope that the activities will run again during the Easter Holidays.

To find out more about the two events, call organiser Lindsay Trevarthen on 07989 986672.
