A FAMILY from a village near Ashbourne are celebrating the early arrival of a very special Christmas present.
Little James Ian Burford-Williams was not expected to make his appearance until the New Year, but he was born at 5.30am on Christmas day.
Weighing in at five pounds and 13 ounces baby James is now back at home in Mayfield and doing well.
His proud parents, Lucy Burford and Cliff Williams, said they were delighted with their early Christmas gift.
Miss Burford said: “ We are absolutely thrilled that James arrived on Christmas day.
“He was three weeks early, so we were quite surprised, but he is definitely the best Christmas present ever.
“It’s our first baby, and it’s lovely having him at home with us, we are still so excited about it.
“We would like to say thank-you to everyone at the Derby Royal hospital who were so nice and helpful.
“Special thanks go to our midwife Rachel too, she looked after us really well.
“It’s been the best Christmas ever.”
