ASHBOURNE’s Anne Bourne was part of the winning team as her threesome won from a field of 21 teams of ladies from various Derbyshireg golf clubs who took part in the Ashbourne Open Trios competition
The format was a Stableford competition with two scores from three to count at each hole.
The scores were good in tricky conditions, with winners Bourne, Pamela Hedley and Jill Smith (Matlock) coming in with 75 points.
A front nine score of 38 included 10 pars and the back nine score of 37 include five pars.
In second place were Sally Benn, Gill Lockwood (both Ashbourne) and Trixie Ayre ( Mickleover), who had a total of 73 points.
Of particular note were the three birdies from Benn at the ninth, 13th and 15th holes, along with a team total of 14 pars.
In third place were Jill Bainbridge (Ashbourne), Janice Phillips (Burton) and Jude Pearce (Uttoxeter).
They had a very impressive total of 41 on the front nine but could not quite keep up the momentum on the back nine, scoring 30 points for a total of 71.
Nearest the pin second shot on the fifth hole was won by Lesley Bennett from Branston and on the 14th by Ashbourne’s lady captain Anne Weaver.
LAST month, Bourne was the winner of the ladies’ third major of the season – the Cubitt Cup, an aggregate medal competition that requires consistent strokeplay over two rounds.
Bourne amassed an overall total of net 148 with her first round score of net 73 being just one over her handicap and including an impressive birdie two at the 16th hole.
Her play in the second round was nearly as consistent as she came in with a net 75.
In second place with rounds of 77 and 75 for a net 152 was June Knight and third was Pat Weetman with a total net 155 after rounds of net 79 and 76.
Weaver secured a victory in the Past Captain’s Trophy, a bogey competition which she inaugurated in her first term of captaincy.
She had a very sound round, parring seven holes and playing to her 11 handicap to finish on a score of zero.
One shot behind was Anne Colwell with a score of minus one and Hilary Knott took third place with minus two.
Other competitions during August have seen Lockwood win the fourth Sunday Stableford with a score of 35 points which included birdies at the fourth and 15th holes.
June Knight was second with 33 points and Denyse Hall third on countback, also with 33 points.
Ruth Clift brought her handicap down by one shot to 20 after she won her Thursday Stableford 7 with a very good total of 38 points.
Pat Weetman took the runners-up spot with 35 points and jean Bissell was third on countback from Chris Perry with 34.
