Ashbourne Aztecs Olympia U7 1, Field Lane Yellow U7 1

Written byDAVID BROOME

AFTER a long lay-off due to the poor weather, Ashbourne Aztecs Olympia under-7s returned to action with a draw against Field Lane Yellow Sox.

The Aztecs started strongly with Millie Cokayne orchestrating the show in midfield with her tireless running and hard tackling.

However, after 10 minutes, against the run of play, Field Lane took the lead with a well worked goal.

The Ashbourne youngsters rallied and after some fine play from Morgan Chambers and Alex Rushton, the ball came to Ellis, Sheldon who struck it past the keeper with ease.

Field Lane pressed hard and but for some fine saves from James Moore in the Aztec goal, they would have taken the lead.

In the second half, the Yellow Sox started strongest, but with some very determined defending from Bradley Holmes and Archie Tunnicliffe, they were kept at bay.

Some good kicking from second-half keeper Rushton created breaks for Ellis Sheldon and James Moore on the Field Lane goal and both were unlucky not to score.

Louis De Sousa really came into his own in this match with some tireless running and some very clever play but despite both teams having second-half chances, the score remained one goal each.

Man of the match was Rushton.
