AFTER only three weeks’ training the signs are looking bright for women’s football in Ashbourne as they romped to victory against Hasland Ladies.
A new manager, new players and a new team ethic seem to be paying off.
Ashbourne took on Hasland from a division above and set about them with intent, racing into a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Anabel Coles, Lisa Shenton and Sarah Fearn.
Hasland came out strong in the second half and Ashbourne had to weather the storm, but killed the game off effectively thanks to Lucy Dale’s strike.
Ashbourne Ladies are still on the lookout for players to strengthen the existing squad for the new season.
Training is on Thursday evenings, and matches are played on Sundays at the Osmaston Polo Ground.
The club has recently brought in experienced coach Paul Marshman as manager, assisted by Lisa Shenton.
Marshman would welcome assistance from younger coaches who hold at least the FA Level Two Coaching Certificate.
