As the summer league of Derbyshire squash draws towards its close, Ashbourne’s two teams’ performance is matching that of the last winter season.
The first team, playing in Division One, are having to work hard to avoid relegation.
Following their successful battle in the winter leagues, captain Jeff Davenport is hoping for a similar late flourish to the summer campaign to secure the team’s status.
The seconds, meanwhile, who were Division Five winners at the end of the winter, and also took the runners’ up trophy in the cup, are within reach of the Division Four championship, having only lost two matches all season and even those very closely.
Captain Paul Doran is hoping that success in the summer’s last few fixtures might bring yet another trophy.
As the summer season nears the end, both teams are looking towards a busy winter campaign which is likely to be hard work.
The loss of some key players over the last couple of months does not help, so any experienced players who are interested in team squash would be most welcome and can find more information at Ashbourne Leisure Centre.
