A TEAM of 13 swimmers from Ashbourne and District Swimming Club came back with two medals and a host of personal best times in the Derbyshire County Sprints Competition held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield last month.
For some of the swimmers, this was their first experience of swimming in a 50-metre pool and they all rose to the occasion in fine style.
Kirsty Durose, previously girl’s captain at Ashbourne, set a fantastic example to the younger swimmers by taking gold in the women’s over-20 years age group in both the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly events.
She also won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle.
Morgan Hart, swimming in the 12-year-old boys category, was fifth in the 50m backstroke and a very creditable eighth in the 50m breaststroke.
All other Ashbourne swimmers swam at least one personal best time, with some gaining huge PBs in all of their races.
Coach Scott Tovell-Coleman was very pleased with the team’s performance and is looking forward to more success with the enthusiastic swimmers that train with the club.
