The awards are aimed at recognising those volunteers who give so much of their time to the game of cricket.

There were seven awards in total, and Smith won the award in the Natwest Cricketforce category.

The award was presented by Derbyshire Cricket Board chairman Dave Bull.

As a regional winner, Smith will be going to Lords on October 18 for the national awards where he will be treated to a tour of the ground before the awards ceremony in the afternoon.

Smith said: “I’m extremely proud and honoured to be recognised for something that I do for the love of the club and the game.

“I was surprised just to be nominated but then to win was a fantastic feeling

“It’s brilliant for Ashbourne CC as this award is for all those who give their time from within the club and others who have volunteered and of course sponsored us during 2010.

“To have a chance at an award like this you need a team of good people and that’s exactly what we’ve got at Ashbourne CC.

“At the heart of the club is a group of individuals who really want good things to happen and it’s this desire that is helping shape our future fortunes.

“This award shows that things are continuing to improve for us as a club and I hope that our fortunes will get better and better over the coming seasons.”
