Chilly conditions fail to put ladies off nine-holer

AN EXCELLENT turnout of 90 ladies took part in Ashbourne Ladies’ annual winter nine hole stableford competition last Friday.

golfThe early frosty morning sunshine eventually gave way to very foggy weather which made playing conditions around the course and on the greens rather tricky.

A number of Ashbourne players were in the prizes, particularly in the lower handicap Silver Division.

However, in the Bronze Division there was a good spread of winners, all with a total of 20 points so positions had to be decided on countback.

Georgina Oulsnam from Chatsworth took first prize on the back three holes from Denise Morley from Matlock in second place and Gill Watson from Chatsworth in third place.

Ashbourne’s Hilary Knott took fourth place on the back six holes having unfortunately been unable to score on the last hole which would have put her first.

In the Silver Division, Ashbourne took first, second and third prizes, through Sandra Maxwell (17 points), Pat Weetman (16 points) and Kay Jones (15 points).

The fourth prize went to Clare Village from Chatsworth also with 15 points who just lost out on countback.

Before presenting the prizes, Ashbourne’s Ladies’ captain Anne Colwell thanked everyone who had supported and helped with the day, particularly Chris Perry, who had organised another very successful nine hole event.
