Ashbourne Ladies suffered a narrow defeat at Derby Asterdale on Saturday.
The visitors started quickly, putting immediate pressure on the defence through Katherine Round and Janet Smith, with excellent distribution through to forwards Kat Smith and Becky Drew.
They got the breakthrough with a superbly-fought drive down the left from Round, who drove the ball across the goal for Rachel Bailey to neatly pick up and with a great control put the ball into the back of the net.)
Almost from the restart Asterdale pushed forward and were awarded a penalty corner which they subsequently converted to put the scores back level.
A poor clearance was then picked up by an opposing forward at the top of the D and the home side capitalised with a rocket shot passing the stricken Louise Cook in goal.
The second half started with new vigour and Ashbourne were on top from start to finish and dominated play.
Chances were created with excellent pick up play from Susan Reeves playing the ball up to Rebecca Harvey and Drew but luck was not with the Ashbourne side despite a number of penalty corners, a disallowed Drew goal and hard battling from the whole team all the way to the final whistle.
