Grundy contest raised over 2k

A FUND-RAISING golf tournament has raised more than £2,000 for a cancer charity.

The 15th Mick Grundy Memorial Golf tournament — which raised £2,585 for the Anthony Nolan Trust — saw 100 players enjoy dry but windy conditions before the rain arrived.

The winning team, with a 12 under par nett score of 130, comprised Tim Clarke, Martin Scothern, Fraser Darrington and Robert Oakden from Coxmoor golf club in Mansfield.

The Ashbourne quartet of Jonathan Milne, Steve Walwyn, James Bainbridge and Paul Barnett were runners-up with a score of 132.

The gross prize was awarded to Steve Astle, James Whatley, Aaron Holtom, professionals from the East Midlands Golf Academy at Morley Hayes playing alongside Craig Young from Ashbourne.

The competition has now raised £31,800 for the trust since 1998.
