ASHBOURNE swimmer Matthew Holt stormed the Derbyshire ASA County Championships, held at the ARC in Matlock over the last two weekends – coming away with 12 medals.
Holt was one of a number of local competitors who all held their own against some of the strongest swimmers from clubs all over Derbyshire.
However, the standout performance for Ashbourne was from 12-year-old Holt ,who won medals in all 12 of his events – six golds and six silvers.
Matthew came second overall in the 12-year-old boy county BAGCAT rankings and has qualified in multiple events for the Midland Regional Championships in June.
Other especially strong swims came from Morgan Hart, who narrowly missed out on a medal, coming fourth in the boys 50m breaststroke, and Paul Haswell, who came fifth in the 200m backstroke, swimming the race in a storming personal best time.
Amber Harrison, 10, swam in a wide variety of events and clocked huge personal best times especially in the 200m events.
The other swimmers from Ashbourne were Sacha Doran, Elena Cox, Rebecca Ripley, Matthew Moody, Alex Holt, Will Ripley and Evie Broom, most of whom were competing in their first county championships and they all achieved at least one personal best time.
Club president Roger Slater, said “We have a lot of promising swimmers coming through the club at the moment and it was great to see them in action.”
