THE curtain came down on the 2013 Ashbourne Summer League season as Biggin beat Mayfield in the final of the Consolation Cup.
Played between the two teams that finished highest in the league without playing in any other cup final, the game promised to be close but entertaining after the two teams played each other in the league the week before and the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
In the first half, Josh Critchlow put Biggin ahead, only to see Will Tomkinson level for Mayfield.
And Mayfield were unlucky not to go ahead in the second half as they hit the woodwork on numerous occasions but just could not find the killer touch.
But Critchlow could for Biggin and just as the game was heading for extra time and a 1-1 draw he hit the winner.
And with no time left to fightback for Mayfield it was Biggin who lifted the trophy.
After the game, the Summer League’s individual trophy winners were presented with their gongs.
Player of the year was won by Mayfield youngster Callum Rowland, top goalscorer was Bradley’s Mark Sellers with 42 goals and linesman of the year was won by Mayfield’s Andy Fearn.
