Panthers spot on for cup win

MAYFIELD Panthers Under-11s needed penalties to see of Repton Under-11s in a highly-competitive second round cup match on Saturday.

The first half was dominated by the Panthers (pictured above), and the football they played was at times was top notch, and with all that pressure, it was not long before they took the lead with a well-taken goal by Liam Hemsil.

The Repton goal was now being attacked constantly, with shot after shot raining in, and only the woodwork and the goalkeeper denied them.

Then, against the run of play, Repton broke away and scored the equaliser.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Panthers in nonstop attack on the Repton goal, but the ball would not find the back of the net.

Full-time came with the scores level, so this meant extra time followed, and with no goals in extra time it went to penalties.

The cool, composed Panthers penalties were put away by Liam Hemsil, Jamie Feely and Jack Jeffery, and with Repton missing two of their three penalties, it meant Mayfield progressed to the quarter finals.

This was by far the Panthersʼ best performance of the season.

Man of the match for Panthers was Jack Jeffery.

PANTHERS: J Boot, J Walker, T Bespalyi, J Barke, T Travers, L Hemsil, C Sims, J Feely, J Jeffery, M Bull, H Pegg, J Meadows.
