AN ASHBOURNE girl’s goal of playing football for England has taken a step closer after she was selected to attend coaching sessions with FA coaches at St George’s Park.
Nine-year-old Lucy Moon, from Clifton, began playing football when she was six and now plays for Derby County’s Centre of Excellence Under-11s.
Coach Jess Simnett said: “She’s been picked to do creativity coaching sessions with FA coaches at St George’s Park.
“She’s a great dribbler, and has lots of other ability. She’s got flair and is on course for great success.”
Derby County’s Centre of Excellence manager Natasha Naqwi said: “She’s so keen and very dynamic – full of energy and with a hunger for success.
“She is a creative player and shows great potential.
Lucy’s dad, Danny Moon said: “I can’t believe she’s been selected to go to England’s training camp at St. George’s Park. I think she one of the youngest to be selected.
