JEAN Titterington claimed the Ashbourne Golf Club New Year’s Trophy after the competition was finally held last weekend.
Having had the stableford competition postponed last month owing to the wet and windy weather, the ladies took to the course in more favourable dry conditions on Sunday.
The course played very well for the time of year and was in good condition after the recent dry spell, with the ball running out more in the firmer conditions, requiring careful club selection.
The scores on the day were quite good with Titterington, right, playing off 19 handicap, taking the winner’s spot with a score of 34 points.
She had a steady front nine with pars on the fifth, sixth and eighth holes to card 15 points.
However, on the back nine, Titterington played consistently and putted very well to score an excellent 19 points, which included a lovely birdie on the par five 12th hole, brought about by an accurate chip onto the green followed by a confident right to left seven foot put.
Pars at the 13th and 17th holes also helped to boost her score and her only real disappointment was missed put for a six at the final hole.
Runner up was Rachel Robinson, just a point behind.
Playing off a handicap off 23, she too had a birdie, this time the par four fifth hole.
She also parred the sixth hole to accumulate 18 points on the front nine.
A net birdie on the 12th hole for three points contributed to a total of 15 on the back nine.
Pat Richardson, playing off 22, came in with 32 points.
She had a net birdie at the second hole and scored 18 points on the front nine.
However her back nine did not see quite so consistent scoring, with 14 points enough to secure her third position.
