Under-11s go through in a battling cup victory

ASHBOURNE AZTECS U11 1, MELBOURNE 0

Ashbourne Aztecs under-11s are still in the frame to retain their cup title after a battling 1-0 win over Melbourne saw them through to the quarter-finals.

With conditions at Osmaston Park so bad that the match on the adjoining pitch was abandoned halfway through, the players had to stand up and be counted, as a magnificent goal by Joe Reed settled the match.

The back four of goalkeeper Lee Cranstone, and defenders Jack Bill, Jake Ridley and Kye Gordon were awesome, defending as though their lives depended on it, while the midfield of Liam Warner, Jamie Graham, Felix Horsnall, Adam Wildgoose and Mathew Pepper battled away, not giving an inch when the going got tough.

Captain Will Topham, who was completely covered from head to toe in mud, picked up an injury following a challenge.

Ben Wainwright battled away up front competing well against good defenders.
