Winton claims three prizes at Carsington

Written byDAVID BROOME

ALAN Winton was proclaimed top dog at Carsington Fly Fishers’ annual presentation night – held at the Knockerdown Inn – as he claimed all three of the main prizes.

Each season the club holds a series of seven matches on Carsington Water, with anglers awarded points for the number of fish landed, and the one
leading the league table at the season end is awarded the title of angler of the year.

And the trophy for 2013 went to Parwich’s Winton, who led the table, way ahead of the opposition, to land the main prize.

Keeping it in the family was his son Andrew Wilton of Mayfield, who came in second place, whilst third spot went to his boat partner Stephen Coates.

Steve Dolton of Holloway seemed assured of lifting the trophy for the heaviest fish of the season until the last match of the season, when Wilton senior landed a fish to equal his weight.

The final trophy was for the heaviest combined bag of the season, and once again Wilton stepped up to collect the trophy after recording a weight of 75 lbs 7 ozs – a club record.

Anyone interested in joining the club should contact James Sharpe on 01335 344933.
