For couples looking for something out of the ordinary, they might be quite taken with Sugnall Hall’s historic walled kitchen garden.
Currently, it is only available for wedding receptions but the owners are in the process of the walled garden becoming a Licensed Venue; it is anticipated that couples will be able to marry at Sugnall by late summer 2013.
The 2-acre walled kitchen garden on the Sugnall Estate, which was built 275 years ago this year, offers what must be one of the most picturesque settings for intimate country weddings in the region.
Once inside walled garden — the 12-foot high walls guarantee absolute privacy — the focal point of the restored walled garden is the hand-made, hand-printed Indian pavilion, which was produced in Jodhpur, India, and is the setting for wedding receptions. Wedding ceremonies will take place in the restored Peach House, which is also set within the walled garden, and is one of the garden’s original glasshouses.
The Indian pavilion is set in one of the quadrants of the restored garden; it can comfortably seat up to 80 guests for formal dining and cater for increased numbers for informal and evening receptions.
Two of the quadrants are producing a wide range of fruit and vegetables, with the final quarter laid to gravel to provide hardstanding for additional marquees and wedding vehicles.
There is ample parking for wedding guests directly opposite the walled garden adjacent to Sugnall's rural business centre.
Whether brides and grooms to be are looking for the complete package or prefer to take care of their own arrangements the owners of Sugnall go out of their way to ensure that everything goes to plan.
The owners have established links with a range of high quality wedding suppliers, including several highly recommended caterers. Whereas some wedding venues may host more than one wedding or allocate a specific time slot, there are no such limitations in the walled kitchen garden.
Wedding parties have exclusive use of the Indian pavilion and of the public areas within the walled garden.
During the summer months the borders around the pavilion is a blaze of colour, which provides a beautiful backdrop for additional wedding photography; indeed, the entire walled garden affords almost endless opportunities for a stunning, unique photographic record of the wedding reception.
