A STREAKER has walked into an Ashbourne charity shop, removed his clothing and parading around the store naked.
The man exposed himself to a young schoolgirl as he walked around shop nude, the manager has said.
The incident happened shortly before 4pm yesterday in the Salvation Army Shop, in Market Place, Ashbourne.
Rachel Hobson, the manager, said: “One of my elderly volunteers was in the shop at the time and behaved admirably shielding the young school girls girl from the man.
“She told me that he walked into the store at around 3.55pm and straight in to the changing room.
“Moments later he walked out without any clothes on and started walking around the store.
“She said she tried to hide him from the girls and the whole incident lasted around a minute.”
Ms Hobson said this is the second time a similar incident has happened in the store recently.
Last year a man, who she believes is the same person, walked into the store and acted in exactly the same manner.
She said: “On both occasions is appears that he did not walk in and take any clothing into the changing room to try on.
“He just walked in straight to the back and they out into the store naked.
“It can be very upsetting and distressing for people when something like this happens which is why I am so proud of the way my volunteer acted yesterday.
“We have reported the matter to the police and have told them that we believes the same person is responsible for both acts.”
Councillor Steve Bull is the Mayor of Ashbourne.
He said: “I would not like it if someone had done anything like that in front of any young child I knew.
“It cannot have been very pleasant for anyone who witnessed it let alone a schoolgirl.
“I am sure the police are investigating the matter thoroughly and I hope they catch the person who did this.
“Behaviour like this is not normal and maybe that person needs some kind of help.”
A police spokesman said officers were called to the store at 3.55pm yesterday.
He said: “A witness has told officers that the man walked into the store, straight into the changing room and then out again without any clothes.
“He paraded around the shop for a short time before going back into the changing rooms, put his clothes back on and left.
“When he was wearing clothes they were blue trousers, but not jeans and a white t-shirt.
“The witness said he had a round face.”
Anyone with information on the identity of the streaker should call 101.
