COUNCIL chiefs have this afternoon decided to postpone a meeting to decide on whether to allow a travellers' site in Ashbourne, the News Telegraph can exclusively reveal.

Derbyshire Dales District Council's director of planning and housing has withdrawn the application from the Southern Area Planning Committee agenda, which was due to be discussed at a public meeting on Tuesday.

A district council spokesman has told the News Telegraph that the decision has been delayed to allow an extended period of time for public representations to be submitted and considered by planners.

A report will now be presented to the meeting of the Council’s Southern Area Planning Committee on Tuesday, December 11.

The spokseman said: "The District Council wishes to point out that this planning application has absolutely adhered to all necessary legal and constitutional procedures to date and that the delay in determining the application is solely to enable us to listen to the views of local people, a great many of whom have made representations in recent days."

I didn't hear anyone say that the application had adhered to the legal procedures to date. It might well have bee legal to push this application in through the back door but we have to ask was it ethical? I would like to know what is in it for Ashbourne and Ashbourne people? There must be some kind of incentive so why are we not told just what advantages anyone will gain?

I would love to know who the dDDC spokesperson is because at last night meeting it transpired that the application hasn't adhered to any legal prodedures to date!!!! People of Ashbourne - if you wantyou voices to be heard you need to go onto the planning section of the DDDC and object https://planning.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=details&keyVal=MB7D9TFU02L00

can we establish a petition in order to show those at the DDDC the communal strength of opinion against this proposal? We have all watched and suffered as the town of Ashbourne has battled against the effects of the recession in recent years to maintain its character-this would ring the death knell
