ASHBOURNE town guides recently hosted a special one-off tour to coincide with the launch of the new digital history website.
The walk around town featured many of the buildings, people and past events that are further explained on the Experience Ashbourne History web page, created by the Ashbourne Partnership.
The website will enable people to use mobile phones to scan barcodes displayed in significant buildings, which will then link directly to a page giving information about the property and vicinity.
Visitors to the area can use these special barcodes, called QR - or ‘Quick Response’- codes, which are dotted around the town to prompt a smartphone to load up the corresponding page on the website, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The scheme is further supported by a new state-of-the-art touch-screen monitor installed in Ashbourne’s new library in Compton.
