ASHBOURNE households are being warned to be on their guard following a spate of recent telephone scams.

Trading Standards bosses are alerting people to be aware of unsolicited telephone calls from traders offering free boiler inspections.

However, the caller then goes on to request £299 for a ‘Green Deal Assessment’.

Consumers who have paid this fee to the traders have reported that no further contact or assessments have been carried out.

The advice from Trading Standards is to never give personal details out, especially to businesses who have cold called by telephone or in person.

In particular they are reminding people to keep their bank account and credit card details secure, and never to reveal them to anyone.

Anyone who thinks they have discovered a scam should report the matter to the citizens advice consumer service on 08454 040506.
