THE Metro have added their own spin on the Will Hughes to the Premier League rumour by claiming that Liverpool are set to make a new approach for the Derby County teenager during the January transfer window.
The free newspaper claim Hughes, 18, was a target for the Reds during the summer but that, despite holding talks with the Rams over a deal, they could not agree on a fee before the window closed.
They say Brendan Rodgers remains a fan of his services though, and has instructed trusted scout Barry Hunter to continue reporting on his progress until the New Year, when they would be prepared to pay up to £10 million as part of a package that would include bonuses if the player goes on to play for England at senior level.
Sochaux defender Sebastien Corchia has not ruled out a move to Arsenal this winter, say talkSPORT, while North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were the subject of a transfer window snub from Catania's Nicolas Spolli, according to the Argentina defender himself.
West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke is keen to see Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long pledge his future to the club, despite overt attempts to sell him last month, say the Daily Mirror.
Barcelona want to bring Juan Mata back to Spain, but despite the 25-year-old playmaker making just one appearance so far this season for Chelsea, the Daily Express believe ex-Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho may be unwilling to sell to the Catalans.
Wayne Rooney is yet to resume full training with Manchester United but is aiming to recover from a head injury in time for the derby against City on September 22.
