AS part of his tireless fund-raising for the Mercian Regiment, Tony Millward took to a mobility scooter on Saturday and completed six circuits of Darley Moor’s race track, raising more than £900 for the regiment’s benevolent fund.
His 8mph mobility scooter, which was loaned to him by East Midlands Mobility, was the same version that won BBC Top Gear’s Extreme Mobility Scooter challenge.
He said: “I tackled this challenge to highlight the plight of many war veterans who are still missing out on the level of care and support they deserve. Issues such as ill health and restricted mobility are commonly combined with welfare problems, especially for amputees and those who have to deal with psychological scars from facing combat.
