Town monument’s near miss

A LORRY has stopped inches away from careering into one of Ashbourne's historic monuments.

The Danish driver of the articulated, curtain-sided lorry had been making deliveries throughout Tuesday and had one load of rolled paper left on his trailer but, as it was at the rear of the vehicle, there was no weight over the driving wheels and he failed to get traction while driving up Buxton Hill at around 1pm.

The lorry slipped further and further back and stopped less than a foot away from the Frank Wright Memorial in the Market Place, an is currently waiting for recovery.
